Laurel Mayer, ’58 Social Sciences:
Selected for induction into the Greene County, Ohio and the Ohio State Veterans Hall of Fame. A retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force, Mayer received his Ph.D. from Miami University and taught at the University Maryland overseas, Park University on military bases, and for Urbana University in the Ohio prison system while still on active duty. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1988, Mayer taught at Sinclair Community College for 35 years, where he was named professor emeritus.
Mark Tigan, ’71 Applied Sciences and Arts, ’78 MPA:
Published a memoir that includes a chapter on the 1970 Survival Faire at San José State.
Fred Stoecke, ’74 Radio-Television-Film:
Worked in the broadcast master control for the American Forces Network (AFRTS) in the Navy and served in the public information office for the commander of the Air Forces Pacific Fleet before he retired and moved to Hawaii.
Monique J. Morrow, ’80 French:
Recognized as one of the top 150 fascinating females around the world fighting cybercrime by Cybercrime Magazine.
Michelle Smith McDonald, ‘90 Journalism:
Named to the U.S. Basketball Writers (USBWA) Hall of Fame for longtime coverage of collegiate and professional women’s basketball.
Linda Smith, ‘92 Public Relations:
Retiring after serving 15 years in the City of Dublin (CA) in a variety of leadership roles, most recently as city manager since 2020. Smith led the fastest growing city in California through the pandemic and a sustained period of rapid growth. Smith will begin a new tenure as the city manager for the City of Orinda in mid-October.
Andre C. Morrow, ’91 BS, ’94 MA Kinesiology:
Chosen by former Senator Elizabeth Dole to be a 2024 Elizabeth Dole Foundation Caregiver Veterans Fellow, a mouthpiece for veterans in need of care. He is also currently a City of San José Parks Commissioner representing Council District 2 residents.
Ayana McNair, PhD, ’03 International Business:
Landed her dream job as a writer-editor for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Seth Arnopole, ’10 MLIS:
Published his first book, a volume of poetry called “It Could Always Be Verse.”
Mary Ashley Fortuno, ’23 Sociology, minor in Legal Studies:
Hired as a discovery clerk in The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office while she applies to law school. Selected as a law fellow for Legal Education Access Pipeline, Inc. to assist with the law school application process.
