This issue explores SJSU’s engagement in the community and workforce development
Educating the leaders of tomorrow is San José State University’s primary goal. While developing a workforce that is knowledgeable, diverse and successful, SJSU is also entrenched in San José, Santa Clara County and Silicon Valley, with every generation of Spartans making a lasting difference in their communities in a variety of ways.
In this issue, we highlight a few of the many workforce development partnerships and opportunities SJSU offers while exploring service and curricular learning and other ways to give back to the community.
It is impossible to highlight every way in which SJSU is creating these opportunities in the 32 pages of this print magazine and its corresponding digital version, so here are a few additional examples worth noting:
- The annual Black Engineer Week conference engages students with successful African American engineering professionals in Silicon Valley, including opportunities to tour companies like Adobe.
- SJSU plays a role in Viva CalleSJ, a free recreation program that provides residents a chance to connect with their city in a new way.
- The community is introduced to the wonderful world of science every year through the Sciencepalooza! event held on campus — including activities led by the Tech Interactive and event host Synopsys, the university greenhouse and other SJSU departments.
- The Spartan East Side Promise Program is San José State University's dedicated support service for East Side Union High School District students from the time of college exploration through college graduation.
